HOW TO ADOPT
Seven Steps to
Adopting a Pet from The SPCA for Monterey County:
-
Fill out a pre-adoption application.
-
Visit with the pet
you are interested in adopting to see if his personality
fits your lifestyle. If you are adopting a dog, you can take him
for a walk on our property or play with him off-leash in our play
yard.
-
Complete family
introductions (it is SPCA policy that every member of the family
living in the house with the animal meet and visit with the animal
prior to adoption).
- If you are adopting a new dog and already have one at home, our
animal care staff will assist you with introducing your current dog to
the dog you are hoping to adopt to ensure a good match.
- If you rent your home, please
provide verification
from your landlord (either over the phone or with a lease document)
that a new pet is allowed on the property
-
The SPCA adoption
process takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. All
paperwork, vaccination records, and microchip information will be
provided at this time.
-
Take your new
lifelong family member home!
