Junior Volunteer Programs

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the SPCA for Monterey County! Our volunteers donate thousands of hours every year supporting our programs and services to help all animals in need.

The SPCA welcomes volunteers 12-18 years of age. Our youth volunteers have been a tremendous help in the shelter working with critters, cats and dogs, and in other areas such as special events and community outreach. With limited exceptions, we ask that all junior volunteers be accompanied by an adult. Learn how to apply to be a Junior Volunteer!

Please check out our Volunteer Opportunities for more information on volunteer positions available to junior volunteers. If you need to complete volunteer hours for school, please see our Service Learning Volunteer track.

All of us at the SPCA appreciate your interest in volunteering to help animals!

Animal Camp

The SPCA’s week-long summer day camp offers children a unique mix of fun, exciting, and educational hands-on experiences. Animal Camp builds self-esteem and nurtures compassion.  Attending campers develop an understanding of the shelter environment and a respect for all animals.  Campers learn about animal-related jobs from professional guest speakers including SPCA Humane Investigators, Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation technicians, and animal care staff, to name a few!

Program activities include lessons in animal safety and handling, guided nature hikes on the SPCA grounds, fun creative activities and many visits with adoptable animals in the shelter and barn. Some other fun activities include SPCA Karaoke “Paw”-stars, Critter Crew Quiz and Trivia Show, and back by popular demand – “Dress As Your Favorite Animal” Day!

Please note that there are 2 sessions per age group.  In an effort to make room for everyone, please register for only one camp session.
