WHAT'S IN A NAME?

There is a common misconception that The SPCA for Monterey County is part of a national organization and that we are interconnected with other regional SPCA’s and humane societies. Occasionally, we receive calls asking about a "sister" SPCA organization or a "parent" organization.

While this is understandable, it is not correct; The SPCA for Monterey County is an independent donor supported humane society. There is no national SPCA or parent organization that provides support to local and regional organizations. Your support is extremely important to us, as we do not receive funding from any federal, state or local government agency. Each SPCA and Humane Society is independent and unrelated.

It may not seem to be a significant problem, but it can be cause for concern especially when donors believe they are making donation to support the humane efforts in their own community, but in actuality that money is going to an organization whose efforts are in another state.

We hope this clears up any confusion. Please email us if you have questions. Financial support for The SPCA for Monterey County’s humane programs is made possible solely by generous donations from individuals, corporations, foundations, and you.

Thank you for your continued support. Together we can make a difference in Monterey County!
