Surrendering Your Pet

The SPCA for Monterey County's doors are open to all animals in need. If you need to surrender your pet, you may bring him or her to The SPCA on any day of the week (Saturdays and Sundays included) from 8 am to 5:00 pm, including holidays.

If you have any questions about surrendering a pet, contact us at 831-373-2631 or 422-4721 or email us.

How to Surrender an Animal to The SPCA for Monterey County

  1. Bring your pet to The SPCA lobby (please keep dogs on leash and cats in carriers).
  2. Provide your name and contact information to a caring Customer Service staff member.
  3. Provide your pet's previous Veterinary and vaccination records, if possible.
  4. Fill out a personality profile for the animal you are surrendering. This helps us make a good match with a future adopter.
  5. Pay $50 surrender fee.  Our nonprofit SPCA spends over $600,000 every year caring for stray and surrendered pets. This small fee helps us in our mission of assuring compassionate and humane treatment of all animals in our community (an additional donation is greatly appreciated).  If you are unable to provide the entire $50, SPCA staff will work with you on options.
