How to Adopt

  • HOW TO ADOPT A PET

    Thank you for opening your heart to a pet rescued by your local, independent SPCA Monterey County!

    Cats, Kittens, Dogs, Puppies, and Small Pets
    Our Adoption Center is open daily from 11 am to 5 pm. To adopt a dog, cat, puppy, kitten or a small pet like a rabbit, hamster, or guinea pig, we encourage you to visit our pets online first. You can visit us in person during our open hours to adopt, and all our adoptable pets are ready to go home the day you adopt them. You can also sign up for our Pet Alert Program to receive a text or email when the pet you’re looking for is available for adoption! If you are planning to adopt a dog, and have a current dog at home, we ask that your bring your dog to meet your new pet to ensure a happy match.

    Exotic Pets
    To adopt an exotic pet like a parrot, reptile, or other exotic animal, please fill out our Exotic Pet Application Our team will contact you to set an appointment to meet the animal you are interested in. Thank you for adopting an exotic pet!

    Horses
    To adopt a horse, please fill out our Horse Adoption Application. Our team will be in touch with you about the horse you are interested in. Thank you for adopting a horse!

  • ADOPTION HOLDS

    SPCA Monterey County strongly encourages scheduling an Adoption Hold to meet a dog, cat, puppy, or kitten you are interested in. Our Adoption Holds ensure that pet will be waiting to meet you. Our team will be available to introduce you and answer any questions you may have.

    Adoption Holds for Dogs, Cats, Puppies, and Kittens
    Adoption Holds cost $35 and are non-refundable and not a part of the adoption fee. To schedule your Adoption Hold, please call us at 831-373-2631. Adoption holds can be placed between the hours of 11 am and 5 pm. We are unable to hold pets for more than a 24 hour time period and cannot offer consecutive holds.

    Adoption Holds for Small Pets (Rabbits, Hamsters, Guinea Pigs, etc)
    Adoption Holds cost $10 and are non-refundable and not a part of the adoption fee. To schedule your Adoption Hold, please call us at 831-373-2631. Adoption holds can be placed between the hours of 11 am and 5 pm. We are unable to hold pets for more than a 24 hour time period and cannot offer consecutive holds.

  • HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

    DOGS AND PUPPIES:
    From $65 to $290 or more. Includes; spay/neuter surgery, microchip identification, rabies vaccination and other vaccinations appropriate to age, SPCA identification, health evaluation and more. Learn how this is an amazing value on a lifetime of love.

    CATS AND KITTENS:
    From $25 to $150. Includes; spay/neuter surgery, microchip identification, rabies vaccination and other vaccinations appropriate to age, SPCA identification tag, cardboard pet carrier, health evaluation and more. Learn how this is an amazing value on a lifetime of love.

    SPCA WHISKERS & WISDOM:
    Adults ages 60 years and over can adopt wonderful pets over the age of three for $50 off the adoption fee. Includes spay/neuter surgery, microchip identification, rabies vaccinations and others as appropriate to age and species, SPCA identification and health evaluation. Click here to learn more!

    RABBITS:

    GUINEA PIGS:
    $20

    RATS, MICE, AND HAMSTERS:
    $15

    OTHER ADOPTABLE ANIMALS:
