Minimum Age 6 months* – No prerequisite, but a prior puppy class is desirable.
Family Dog Level 1 is one of the SPCA’s most popular classes. Family Dog training class teaches important basic skills such as sit, stay, come, leave it, and loose-leash walking. The aim of this class is to help your dog become a companion that is easy to live with, that listens, and has skills. Positive reinforcement will be used to grow your training relationship with your dog. This fun, non-judgmental environment is great for the entire family. Classes are available at the SPCA Thursday evenings or Saturday morning, or Saturday morning at Pet Food Express in Carmel.
*Is your dog over 6 months old, but still an older, dog social puppy? Have a look at Puppy Level 2 class. For a young dog this might be a better fit!
If your dog is displaying aggressive behaviors, or you are not sure which class is a good fit for you, please call so we might place your dog in the appropriate class or private training.
Please bring proof of vaccinations the first week of class.

We recommend at minimum a flat or martingale collar with a 6-foot leash. Sometimes we will suggest the addition of head halters or front hook harnesses, If you need a harness we can sell you one after class. Please, no choke or pinch collars, or retractable leashes. We have found that good training with comfortable, non-aversive equipment will enable your dog to perform consistently better!
