In September, SPCA Humane Officers rescued Kona, a neglected senior Golden Retriever, from a property in King City. She was emaciated, had signs of having multiple litters, suffering from painful dental disease, and covered in sores, fleas, scabs, and dirt. She also had a large, untreated mammary mass. She didn’t have access to food or water.
Today, after months of loving care, Kona is a much healthier weight. She has been spayed and her mass, thankfully benign, has been removed. Her skin and coat are much healthier. She still has a weak hind end due to lack of muscle mass, long-term neglect, and age, but that doesn’t seem to slow this playful girl down.
Her neglect case is now with the Monterey County Office of the District Attorney for prosecution.
Nine year old Kona is now happy, playful, and ready to give lots of love in a new, forever home that understands all she has been through. Thank you for making these stories possible!
