SPCA Helping Pets and People Evacuated from Monterey Apartment Fire

SPCA Helps During Disasters

SPCA Monterey County responded to today's apartment fire in Monterey, providing immediate support to our neighbors and their pets.

The SPCA provided free pet food and supplies to numerous evacuated residents. We also rescued two cats and two birds from the apartment complex and reunited them with their owners.

The SPCA is also caring for a cat who was burned during the fire. The cat has burnt paws, a burn on her tongue, and singed fur and whiskers. Skilled SPCA veterinarians soaked and cleaned her paws and applied soothing creams before carefully wrapping all four paws to protect them. We also gave her pain medication and antibiotics. She is now resting comfortably in our compassionate care.

If you evacuated and need free pet food and supplies, or if you need help evacuating your pet, please contact us at 831-373-2631.

“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by today’s fire,” says Scott Delucchi, SPCA President & CEO. “We are here for you.”
