Free Microchip Event

Free Microchip Event

Every year, SPCA Monterey County rescues over one thousand stray dogs and cats in addition to the thousands of pets and wildlife who come to us in different ways. Sadly, 87% of those stray pets arrive with no form of identification - no collar, tag, or microchip - making it incredibly difficult to reunite them with their families.

To help reduce this number, the SPCA is holding a free microchipping event for all cats, dogs, and rabbits. The event will take place on Saturday, August 12, from 11 am to 2 pm at the SPCA. No appointments necessary, first come first served.

A microchip is a small, electronic chip about the size of a grain of rice. It contains a unique identification number that is tied to your information.

In addition to microchips, the SPCA will also have free collars and tags available while supplies last.

We strongly recommend using all three - collars, tags and microchips - to protect your pet. Collars and tags are great at helping reunite pets quickly, but collars can slip off. Many owners tell us they had just removed their pet’s collar when their pet went missing. By providing both microchips and collars, we hope more pets can be reunited with their families without even needing to come to shelters.

SPCA Monterey County is located at 1002 Monterey-Salinas Highway, across from WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
