Who We Are

The SPCA for Monterey County is a non-profit animal welfare organization providing services for over 12,000 animals a year, including lost and found services, pet adoption, humane education programs, low cost spay/neuter, humane investigations and many other services for the animals and people of Monterey County. Staffing consists of approximately 70 employees and 300 volunteers who provide care and service, 365 days a year.

Why Volunteer?

Our hundreds of volunteers donate thousands of hours every year. They provide essential support to our programs and services that help all animals in need. The goal of the volunteer program is to support the mission of The SPCA for Monterey County through dedicated individuals giving their time and enhancing their skills to serve our community.

To Apply for Volunteer Positions

  1. You must be 18 years of age or older, or over the age of 12 and apply with an adult that will volunteer with you.
  2. Be able to volunteer for at least three months working one shift per week for three or four hours
  3. Interview with Volunteer Coordinator, attend mandatory training and mentor sessions.
  4. Be on time and represent The SPCA in a professional manner.
  5. Upon successful interview, pay Volunteer Administration fee*, $25 per person (adult/junior). This fee covers background check, uniform, training, training materials and insurance coverage.

*if you are under 18, please have your adult volunteer complete the Adult online application form.

*Please note: volunteers who have a year or longer break from service will need to pay the Volunteer Administration fee and complete another background check. Volunteers who maintain their service are not required to pay any additional Volunteer Administration fees.

To Apply for Group Volunteer Opportunities

  1. You mustbe 18 years of age or older, or over the age of 12 an apply with an adult that will volunteer with you.
  2. Be on time and represent The SPCA in a professional manner.
  3. Pay $50 group Volunteer Administration fee per school year. Includes 2 adults and four to six junior volunteers. This fee covers 2 adult uniforms, adult background checks, and all training and training materials. Junior group volunteers are encouraged to purchase their own uniform for $15 each.
